The LOWEST LATENCY EEG Headband

ZMax uses a proprietary radio protocol to ensure a low, predictable latency of EEG samples, as required by high performance real-time applications (such as Closed Loop Auditory Stimulation).

There are three sources of latency:

Packet acquisition to transmission: This is less than 3.9ms and absolutely constant.
USB: This is nominally 1ms but subject to variation depending on your OS and machine

On the other hand, the typical latency for a Bluetooth device (all other EEG headbands) is 50-100ms with up to 20ms jitter (variation between samples)!

Dual use electrode patches

ZMax electrode patches are dual-use. For CLAS studies, you can use our extension strip to bring the reference to M1 (mastoid). For other types of studies, using the patches as-is provides best comfort and ease of application for patients in the home.
